3. Some Other Carotenoids
There are some other carotenoids that you should consider adding to your diet. Astaxanthin is one that might seem like it is a strange thing to add to your diet because it is mostly found in algae, but the truth is that this can be one of the most effective tools you have in the fight against macular degeneration. Besides, you don’t actually get it from the algae itself. Instead, you eat a lot of fish and since the fish eat the algae where the Astaxanthin is present, it collects in their tissues and you take it into your own body when you eat those fish.
Some of the fish species that have Astaxanthin in them include trout, salmon and shrimp. It is an extremely effective tool to aid in eye health overall; not just for macular degeneration. Plus, seafood is really delicious and has lots of other health benefits as well.
