3. Breastbone Deformity
Breastbone deformities are another one of the most common physical symptoms that manifest with a diagnosis of Noonan syndrome, and it’s one of the most defining symptoms that a doctor will look for when diagnosing it (together with other characteristic physical symptoms such as the webbing of the neck that’s described earlier on in this article).
The breastbone deformity can usually take one of two forms, and will normally manifest with either a concave or convex deformity of the breastbone – that is to say, either one that indents inward or out.
Combined with scoliosis, another common medical condition that might occur as a symptom of NS, a breastbone deformity can eventually cause pain and discomfort, and might require a corrective brace or surgery to correct if it ever reaches the point where it causes any discomfort.
Constant monitoring of the symptom is needed, and might require x-rays should it worsen.
