2. Short movements
In order to release the stiffness of your neck, you can try slow and short movements that help give your muscles some of its mobility back. If your neck is too stiff because of the contracture, this should help losen it a bit. Short, repetitive and soft movements are far better for your neck than wide and strong movements because those could overwork your tender muscular fibers and even cause your neck to become even more stiff as a natural reflex of the body, meant to protect you from bad movements.
Short movements that you can do to relieve your pain include slowly shaking your head as if you were saying “no”, tilting it sideways and then back up, to the left and the right, and nodding. Drop your head forwards and move your chin left and right like a pendulum. Do at least fifteen of each, at least twice a day.
