2. Wax buildup.
For some cases of tinnitus, the cause is merely the result of an accumulation of wax in the ears. Ear wax medically referred to as “cerumen”, is a substance that is produced by glands that lie within the ears. It serves an important purpose, as it protects the interior of the ear by catching any debris that floats in. Under normal circumstances, ear ways are supposed to naturally push its way out of the ears.
Occasionally wiping down the outer portion of the ear with a damp cloth to remove the wax that has been pushed out is all that is really needed; however, some people objects – cotton swabs, for example – inside the ear to remove the accumulation of wax. This can cause the ear wax to become impacted, or pushed back into the inner ear. An impaction of ear wax can result in a phantom-like ringing sound.
