3. The rash will develop with Schistosomiasis.
The rash has developed because your skin got into contact with the infected water. The rash can appear anywhere on the body. It may become itchy as well. Do not scratch the area if it’s itchy. It’ll just make the rash even bigger and can become more infected. Hydrocortisone and Benadryl will not help because it’s an infection. Infections need antibiotics to get it to clear up. Once you notice that Benadryl and hydrocortisone cream isn’t working, go to the doctor.
The doctor will examine the rash and have blood drawn. The results will show that you have Schistosomiasis because you went to a foreign country and got into the water. Even if you just place your feet into the freshwater, you can still become contaminated because your feet are still skin. Since you placed your feet into the water, the rash may appear on your feet.
