3. Sore Throat
Kids love getting a sore throat. This may sound a little strange and even perhaps a little perverse, but it’s true. Kids love having a sore throat as it is the perfect opportunity to milk a situation to their advantage. You have to take this with a pinch of salt of course, as a seriously sore throat can put someone out of action for a good while, but if the infection is on the mild side, as it can be with adenovirus, some kids feel like they’ve hit the jackpot.
Want some ice cream? Sure, that’ll soothe the pain. Want some throat lozenges to suck on in class? OK, can’t really argue with that and the teacher will understand. Want to speak in a cool croaky voice that puts any suggestion of ‘faking it’ to bed? You got it. Sore throats are one of the most accurate smoke signals for the arrival of adenovirus. Watch it carefully and stock up on ice cream.
