4. Whole wheat bread should be avoided because it contains high amounts of fiber.
When you do want to eat bread, choose white bread instead. Whole wheat bread contains loads of phosphorous and potassium. For example, one ounce of whole wheat bread contains 57 mg of phosphorus and 69 mg of potassium, whereas white bread only contains 28 mg of both.
Even though, white bread if better for someone with pyelonephritis, it still contains a lot of sodium. Choose a bread that has low sodium on it. If you must eat regular white bread, limit your consumption. In fact, don’t eat it every day. If you want to have a sandwich, use one loaf of bread and take the crust off.
Cut the bread in half and you still have a half of a sandwich without too much sodium. Since you’re on a diet, you won’t be able to eat much anyway.
