Search for Articles Here >>

Sinusitis is an inflammation of the sinus tissues in the face. They contain a membrane that produces mucus to trap dirt and other particles as they enter the nose.

When the sinus experiences inflammation and irritation due to infection or allergies, it starts to produce symptoms of mucus overproduction, as well as sneezing and tightness of the face, along with sinus pressure behind the eyes that feels like someone is squeezing your head.

However, a sinus headache is a bar far the most uncomfortable of all the symptoms, and the affected individual may find the areas around their nose, TMJ, temples, and behind the ears become tender to touch.

Doctors treat sinusitis with paracetamol and mild anti-inflammatories or OTC anti-histamine drugs. However, this is not always necessary, and you may be able to relieve the symptoms of sinus pain without the use of medications. Here are eight proven home remedies that relieve sinus headache, give them a try the next time your sinus flares up.

1. Steam Diffusing

Blocked sinuses are irritating – there’s nothing worse than trying to get to sleep at night with a blocked nose and raging sinus headache. Fortunately, steam diffusing can make a tremendous difference to your sinus situation.

The best way to take advantage of this practice, it to purchase a steam diffuser online from a retailer. These diffuser systems allow you to fill the device with purified water, and then the unit turns the water to steam. In many cases, people with blocked sinuses find it hard to breathe, and the warm steam opens up the sinus, allowing you to breathe while reducing the intensity of your headache.

If you don’t have a diffuser lying around the house, and you don’t want to buy one online, then there is still hope for you. Boil the kettle and pour the boiling water into a Pyrex glass bowl. Cover your head with a towel and place your face at about a foot away from the water, with the towel draping over the sides of the bowl. Breathe in the hot steam, and you will gain the same benefits as using a diffuser.
