3. Swelling
One of the most common indicators of Osgood Schlatter disease is swelling that occurs just under the kneecap. This swelling is accompanied by pain in the knee. At times it may be difficult to bend the knee without experiencing pain.
The pain caused by Osgood Schlatter disease will typically get worse while doing certain activities. This includes kneeling, jumping, and running. The pain may subside when resting. The swelling of the area below the knee can be treated with ice and rest. This can help to ease some of the pain that you may be experiencing.
Osgood Schlatter will typically only occur in one of the knees. However, it may be experienced in both of the knees. The discomfort caused by the disease can last anywhere from a few weeks to months. It may continue to occur until your child is finished growing.
