3. Sore throat
Sore throats can be another telltale sign for the imminent arrival of adenovirus, and kids will be the first ones to let you know that their throat is sore, even after you’ve already heard their frog-like croaky throat. If your kid sounds like they’ve had a heavy night and smoked 40 a day for the last 5 and a half years of their short life, you could well have an indicator that they’ve come down with adenovirus.
There are not really many ways to distinguish between a sore throat caused by the common cold and a sore throat caused by adenovirus, but the lack of swollen tonsils will help you rule out tonsillitis and bronchitis. Usually, the treatment of this telltale symptom is pretty straightforward. Just try to numb the pain with coldness, and yes, ice cream works just fine. The kids will almost be delighted that they woke up with a sore throat when you tell them that.
