Search for Articles Here >>

A clavicle fracture is when the bone of the shoulder and breastbone are broken. It is a condition that can be treated and healed within days to weeks. In order to find out if you have a clavicle fracture, you need to have lab and imaging tests done. If the clavicle fracture is severe, going to the emergency room is the only course of action. In order to make the clavicle fracture heal, surgery will be needed.

On the other hand, physical therapy, an arm sling, and medications may be the only thing that is needed to heal the fracture, if it’s not severe. There are many causes of getting a clavicle fracture. If you know what can cause one, you’ll be careful whenever you go somewhere or even in the house.

There are eight common causes of a clavicle fracture that you need to be aware of. Once you know, you can seek medical treatment right away.

1. Falls are a common cause of a Clavicle Fracture.

It can occur when you land on your shoulder or when your hand is outstretched. Falls can occur anywhere, including at home, outside, or at a business. At a business, sometimes they have a wet sign on the floor to let customers know that they have to be cautious. It is painful when you fall down on your shoulder. In order to get up, you’ll need assistance. You won’t be able to get up on your own because you will be in so much pain.

Make sure when someone helps you up, they don’t touch the shoulder that is in pain. They could cause further damage. An emergency room visit is your only course of action at this point. At the emergency room, lab and imagining tests will be taken. At the same time, pain medication will be administered. The pain medication may make you drowsy.
