Bladder cancer is cancer that forms in the bladder. It is the 4th most common cancer in males. In fact, men are times as likely to develop bladder cancer than women. Obesity, hypertension, smoking, lack of exercise, and eating an unhealthy diet are some of the highest risk factors for developing bladder cancer.

Genetic factors and being treated with radiation or chemotherapy for prostate cancer also increase the risk of developing bladder cancer. White males have the highest number of bladder cancer risk factors. However, even though there are many risk factors for developing bladder cancer, there are several ways to prevent or reduce the risk of developing it as well.

When it comes to reducing the risk of developing bladder cancer one of the best things that you can do is to watch what you eat. Here are eight foods that you should be eating more of in order to reduce your risk of developing bladder cancer.

1. Leafy Green Vegetables

When it comes to following a healthy diet, leafy green vegetables are a must. These vegetables are rich in minerals, vitamins, enzymes, and antioxidants. In addition, these green leafy vegetables are very low in fats, sodium, calories, and other toxins.

Any type of leafy green vegetable is good for you. This includes kale, spinach, romaine, arugula, collard greens, etc. These are all high in antioxidants that are known for combating cancer such as beta-carotene and vitamin C. They are a natural source of glucosinolates and they also have antiviral and antibacterial properties. This means that they can help to reprogram cancer cells, causing them to die off.

It also prevents the growth of cancer cells. Isothiocyanates that are found in these green leafy vegetables can also help to detox the body at a cellular level. Simply adding some leafy green vegetables to your diet can help to reduce your risk of bladder and other types of cancers.
