3. A high fever that lasts for several hours at a time.
The normal human temperature might fluctuate with a few decimal degrees throughout the day as the temperature changes, but as soon as we have a high temperature that lasts for an extended period of time, we’re talking about a fever instead. A fever actually has a practical purpose for your body’s immune system, but at the same, it can be dangerous if your body is put through the fever for too long – and in the worst cases it can even lead to total organ shutdown.
A high fever can be symptomatically controlled with the use of aspirin, but if it’s happening because of an underlying infection like trichinosis, you can only expect this symptom to disappear once the source of the infection has been eliminated from the body entirely.
Never try to bring a fever under control yourself through drastic means like a bath in ice water: This can only put your body into shock, and it’s more dangerous than it’s worth.
