A staph infection is caused by the bacteria staphylococcus. This type of infection can cause boils that are quite unsightly and can become life-threatening. Staphylococcus bacteria can cause a person to have all types of health issues. There are more than 30 types of staph, but the most common is the staphylococcus aureus.

This germ can be caught in many different ways, from touching a towel that is infected or other types of clothing. It can also be caught by touching skin that infected directly. Staphylococcus can live on someone’s skin harmlessly, but when a cut or other type of wound occurs things can go bad quickly.

When the skin is broken, the bacteria can enter into the blood through the break, causing an infection. Typically, this can lead to a skin infection such as a pimple or boil that fills with pus. If you believe that you have a staph infection, antibiotics may be necessary. There are also a few natural treatments that can be used to get rid of staph infections.

1. Warm Compress

Typically, staphylococcus aureus will cause a boil that is filled with pus to appear on your skin. One of the ways to help drain this boil is to apply a warm compress onto the area of the skin that is infected. You will simply want to wet a washcloth with some warm water. Press the warm cloth to the boil and hold it there for at least twenty minutes and up to 30 minutes.

You should continue to do this three or four times a day. This can help release the pus from the boil. When the boil has drained, make sure that you use a clean bandage to cover it. This will absorb some of the pus and also will help to protect your skin. Make sure that you wash the area with a quality antibacterial soap to help prevent the infection from spreading.

2. Manuka Honey

Honey has many potent antimicrobial properties. One type of honey, called manuka honey comes from bees that feed on the manuka bush. This type of honey is known for having several potent antibacterial properties. There are many factors at work that help the honey inhibit microbes and fight off infections. These include a high amount of sugar, low water content, phytochemicals, and hydrogen peroxide.

In addition, manuka honey also contains a compound known as dihydroxyacetone. This compound produces methylglyoxal, which is a chemical that has antibacterial properties. It has been found that manuka honey is effective when it comes to the staphylococcus bacteria. To use manuka honey to treat a staph infection you will want to create a dressing with the manuka honey. Make sure to purchase medical-grade honey to use. Keep the honey over the infection for as long as possible as it will help to heal the wound and keep it free from infections.

3. Turmeric

Turmeric is a wonderful spice. It is most well known for being the spice that provides curry with a lovely gold color. In addition, turmeric has several antibacterial properties and is often used in Eastern medicine. Many Asian communities have used this spice for hundreds of years as a way to treat many types of ailments, including minor infections.

Some lab studies have found that curcumin, which is one of the compounds found in turmeric, can be quite effective against different types of staphylococcus bacteria. In order to use turmeric as a way to treat a staph infection, you will first want to grind up the turmeric until it is a very fine powder. Add a little bit of water at a time and mix until a fine paste is created. You can then apply this paste to any wounds or boils that you may have. It will help to heal the infection more quickly.

4. Tea Tree Oil

Tea tree oil comes has long been used in Australia by the aboriginals as a way to treat cuts and other skin infections. It comes from the melaleuca alternifolia tree. Tea tree oil helps to treat a broad range of infections as it works against many types of germs. It has been found to be very effective against staphylococcus bacteria.

Tea tree oil has an antimicrobial activity that is associated with a component called terpinene-4-ol. If you are suffering from a staph infection, tea tree oil can be very helpful. In order to use tea tree oil for an infection, the leaves can be crushed and then applied to the infections and cuts. Oil from the leaves can also be used topically as treatment. While tea tree oil is considered to be safe to use topically, there are some people who are allergic to it. For this reason, it is important to test a small area of the skin before using it.

5. Lime Juice

If you are suffering from a staph infection and looking for something around the home to help heal the infection more quickly, lime may be the answer. According to research, the juice from a lime can help treat infections caused by staph bacteria. If you have lime in your home and you are suffering from an infection or if you cut yourself and want to prevent an infection, simply juice a lime.

Make sure that you do not mix the lime juice with anything as undiluted lime juice works best. Once you have squeezed the juice out of the lime you will want to then pour the juice directly onto the abrasion or the cut. This will help to prevent it from becoming infected. If you have an abscess, you can mix the lime juice with some freshly grated garlic to help cure the abscess.

6. Garlic

There are many reasons that you should add some garlic to your diet. This herb has many great health benefits. Garlic is not only the enemy of Dracula, but it is also the enemy of many common germs. During World War I, garlic was commonly used as a way to disinfect wounds. Garlic extract contains the compounds diallyl disulfide and diallyl sulfide.

These compounds are both known for killing staphylococcus aureus, which is often resistant to antibiotics. Garlic can be used in several ways. In order to treat a skin infection, a clove of garlic can be juiced and the juice can be applied directly to the boil, cut, or another skin irritant. Cloves of garlic can also be eaten as a way to help deal with infections from within. Adding garlic to your regular diet can help heal the body in many ways.

7. Eucalyptus Oil

Once again when it comes to a healing oil we can think of the aborigines of Australia. It was this group of individuals who first discovered how powerful eucalyptus oil can be when it comes to healing. Lab studies have found that eucalyptus oil provides an antimicrobial effect on the staphylococcus bacteria.

The antibacterial effect that eucalyptus oil provides is mainly because of a compound known as 1,8-cineole or the eucalyptol compound. There are many other bioactive constituents found in the oil as well. In order to use eucalyptus oil as a treatment for a staph infection, you will need to dilute it with a carrier oil and then apply it directly to the infection. It is important to note that pregnant women and children under the age of five should not use eucalyptus oil as a treatment for an infection.

""

8. Witch Hazel

Another ancient remedy that has been used as a way to slow bleeding in wounds and to combat infection is witch hazel. The staphylococci bacteria use a system that is known as quorum sensing in order to communicate between cells. This allows the bacteria to regulate the expression of its genes based on the density of its population. When quorum sensing is not available the population cannot communicate as a group within the host body.

The research found that hamamelitannin, which is a compound that is found in witch hazel bark, inhibits quorum sensing. This helps to suppress infections caused by staph bacteria. In addition, witch hazel offers antibacterial properties and can help to ease inflammation and slow down the bleeding. To use witch hazel you can simply soak a cotton pad in a bit of witch hazel extract and then apply the cotton pad to your wound.

9. Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple cider vinegar is found in most kitchens. If you don’t have it, then it’s usually just a trip to the grocery store away- and it has far more associated benefits than most people who have it in their kitchens might have expected.

It’s one of the best possible ingredients out there for its antiseptic properties: Most types of bacteria can’t live in an environment that’s been cleaned with vinegar, also making it one of the best general (and natural) things to clean surfaces in your house with.

When it gets applied directly to the skin, apple cider vinegar has shown considerable benefits when it comes to hydrating the skin and helping to alleviate the itching associated with things like mosquito bites.

Naturally, it can also help heal the condition and its symptoms if you have any kind of skin (and specifically staph) infection that needs to be taken care of.

""

10. Alcohol-Based Tinctures

There are plenty of good reasons why alcohol-based tinctures can heal you to get rid of a staph infection.

First, alcohol is one of the best substances for cleaning right next to vinegar – which is why doctors, nurses and tattoo artists all swab a spot before commencing with any procedures. Second, alcohol is one of the fastest and best ways to draw essential components from fresh or dried herbs.

Where you can’t find pharmaceutical-grade alcohol available, any type of clear alcohol (like vodka) can be used as a substitute.

Tinctures can be made from any combination of herbs that you want to choose from or have available when you do it, including some of those that have been suggested in this article already (including garlic and eucalyptus).

For most types of skin infections, tinctures are best applied topically. Make sure that you don’t bring any contaminated objects (e.g. cotton) into contact with the bottle you’re storing the tincture in: Cross-contamination is a very real risk.

""

11. Salt

Where vinegar or alcohol haven’t been readily available as products for cleaning and emergency infection control, salt has filled the gap. Pure salt is also one of the few substances on earth where most bacteria and viruses will refuse to grow – and the benefits of cleaning with salt should become obvious just from this. (As an additional tip, coarse salt is great for scrubbing, too.)

When it comes to health, saltwater rinsing is often recommended to prevent (and sometimes treat) plaque and mouth ulcers; saltwater is also the first recommendation if you have gotten a new piercing or tattoo.

All of this is because of the sanitizing properties of salt. It’s always a good idea to keep it around the medical kit, and it has absolutely nothing to do with throwing a pinch of it over your shoulder.

If you have a staph infection, adding salt to your bathwater (or applying diluted saltwater directly to any marks) can help to get rid of the infection faster.

""

12.Aloe Vera

Alexander the Great was well-known for sending his soldiers into battle equipped with aloe vera. He did this because of the fact that aloe vera could stop a person’s bleeding, even from severe wounds, enough for them to either continue with the battle or head to medical attention where they could make a fuller recovery.

While you might not be charging into battle yourself, a staph infection can be your body’s own battle: You can follow the Great’s advice and opt for aloe vera.

It can do more than just stop bleeding: It’s also a powerful antiseptic that also happens to be high in essential vitamins that your skin could always use more of.

These days, you can find aloe vera as part of certain medical skin creams, or as part of essential oils. The supplement form is also available for adding it to your diet but is unsuitable for direct application.

13. Coconut Oil

Should you want to make a tincture at home and don’t want to use alcohol (or don’t have it around in an emergency), you can also substitute coconut oil. The trick is warming up the coconut oil with your relevant extract (and not too warm), then letting it sit for long enough. A change of color should be the clue that you’re doing it right.

Of course, plain coconut oil can do the trick too in the case of a staph infection. Again, it’s a habitat that many germs (and in fact, parasites like mites) don’t want to stick around in.

Apply it directly to any marks associated with a staph infection the same way you would any other cream or tincture. Whether you want to add anything extra to your coconut oil or not is entirely up to you, although recommended for the best possible results and some added benefit.

""

14. Petroleum Jelly

Even though coconut oil is a relatively neutral ingredient, there are some people who still display a sensitive reaction to it. Others might just not have coconut oil as readily available, while there are many people who can’t stand its consistency or tendency to melt, run and stain when exposed to heat.

If this describes you and you’re looking for an alternative treatment method, you should be glad to know that petroleum jelly makes a good enough substitute for most types of tinctures out there that you don’t want to use alcohol or coconut oil for.

Again, applied topically, it can help to reduce the itching and discomfort associated with a staph infection and is likely to reduce how long you’ll take to heal from it.

Remember that the same rule applies: Don’t accidentally contaminate the main tincture bottle by sticking a contaminated cotton-end back into the same bottle twice.
