Pharyngitis causes inflammation to the back of the throat. It causes the throat area to become scratchy and it also causes the person to be unable to swallow. When you have pharyngitis, it is contagious. It can spread from one person to another. It is important to stay away from others when you have this. Even kissing can transfer the condition to another person.

Pharyngitis is curable and there are eight healthy methods to heal it. You can try all of them or just one. One of them should be able to do the trick if it hasn’t gotten worse. If you let the condition get worse, you may have to seek medical attention. At the hospital, you will be given antibiotics for a bacterial infection and there may be a hospital stay as well. Antibiotics don’t work too well for pharyngitis because there are side effects you’ll have to deal with.

1. Gargle with saltwater

is a healthy method to heal pharyngitis. In a pan, heat up some water and let it get warm. You don’t need it to be boiling hot. Take the pan off of the stove and pour in some salt. You can use a table or Epsom salt. If you decide to use Epsom salt, make sure it’s the original formula and not the scented kind.

Pour the mixture into a cup, stir, take a sip, and gargle for about 30 minutes. Repeat a few times. Do this every hour to help reduce swelling. By doing the salt water gargle, it will get rid of the swelling and any bacteria that is in your throat. By the time you get up the next morning, you should notice a difference in how your throat feels. If not, then continue gargling every hour. You won’t be able to go to work, so this won’t be a problem.

2. Place a hot washcloth on your throat to help heal pharyngitis.

In a small pan, pour in water, rubbing alcohol, and Epsom or table salt. Let the water get hot, but not boiling. With a clean washcloth, dip the cloth into the hot water mixture. Wring out the excess water and place over the throat area. Let on the throat area until it cools. Once it cools, you can reheat the hot water mixture and repeat.

Do this every hour or at least twice a day. By doing it every hour, you will notice a difference quicker. The solution will open up the throat area and allow you to be able to swallow. The more times you do it, the throat area will clear up. You don’t want to put this solution in your mouth because of the rubbing alcohol. Make a new solution every time you place it on your throat.

""

3. Suck on throat lozenges ever so often to help heal pharyngitis.

Let the lozenge slowly dissolve in your mouth. If your pharyngitis isn’t gone in a week, you may have to seek medical treatment. On the throat lozenges package, they don’t necessarily want you to take them for more than a week or two. If it hasn’t gotten too bad, the lozenges should work. If not, then you may have to go to the doctor to see what methods he or she thinks you should use in order to clear the condition.

When you try throat lozenges, get a brand that is known for clearing up throat conditions. There are lots of brands out there for throat irritations, but not all of them work the same. Some brands will make your throat numb, but it’s working when this happens. Just suck on a lozenge every two hours or whatever the package states.

""

4. Honey is a healthy option you can take when you have pharyngitis.

You can use honey in a number of ways. You can pour a little bit of honey in a cup of hot water and drink it. You can also just take a teaspoon of it and let it do its job. Honey may not be good for someone who is on a sugar restricted diet, but for others, this is a good option. Make sure the honey is pure. You can find honey everywhere, but not all of it is pure.

Pure honey is expensive. In health food stores you can buy honey sticks that are inexpensive, but they are still likely to be pure honey. You will want to try the hot honey drink every few hours to soothe your throat. You should notice that your throat soreness is going away after a few days. If you make a strong enough hot honey drink it may heal in a day or two.

""

5. Chicken noodle soup is good when you have pharyngitis.

The chicken noodle soup will go down your throat to soothe it. When you eat chicken noodle soup, you don’t want to have the soup with the large noodles since it’ll already be difficult to swallow. Eat the chicken noodle soup with the thin noodles. Don’t drain too much of the juice because that’ll help soothe your throat as well. If you are on a low sodium diet, find the chicken noodle soup that is low sodium.

Don’t eat anything else, but the chicken noodle soup. You don’t even want to eat crackers with it. Just eat the soup at every meal. Try to eat as much as possible. It may be difficult, but you will need to have something in your stomach. If you can’t eat too much of, eat a cup full and try again in a couple of hours. When you have pharyngitis, you’ll need to still stay dehydrated.

""

6. Lemon water will heal pharyngitis in a healthy way.

You can purchase lemon water already mixed or make it yourself. It has a bitter taste, but it’ll do wonders for your throat. Drink a cup of lemon water every couple of hours. It’ll even be better if you warmed the lemon water up. It doesn’t have to be boiling hot, but it should be hot enough where you can feel it going down your throat.

You can add other stuff to it to get rid of the bitter taste like honey. Honey is good for pharyngitis as well. You’ll be getting a double dose of healing by using both. You just have to be consistent when using it because if you’re not, then you won’t see the results that you want. That is with anything. If you’re not consistent, it won’t work. If you can stand the taste, try drinking it along with your chicken noodle soup.

""

7. Apple cider vinegar and honey are good to drink when you want to heal pharyngitis.

The apple cider vinegar has a bitter taste to it, but if you add honey to it, the bitterness should go away. Warm up the apple cider vinegar and honey in a small pan. It doesn’t need to be boiling hot, but just enough that it will do the trick. Drink some of the mixture with every meal or every few hours. When it comes to how much to use, you can eyeball it.

Take your time when you’re drinking it. Since it’s difficult to swallow, you’ll need to take your time when drinking. You don’t want to vomit by rushing. When it comes to apple cider vinegar it doesn’t necessarily matter what brand. All apple cider vinegar works the same way. If you plan on putting honey in it, make sure it’s 100% pure honey though.

""

8. Chicken broth is another healthy option for you to try when you have pharyngitis.

Chicken broth is inexpensive and comes in many sizes. You can drink as much as you want. Make sure it’s hot when you drink it. You can drink it in a cup or bowl. Using a straw will make it a lot easier to go down your throat instead of a spoon. When you drink chicken broth, don’t add any salt to it. Just drink what comes out of the can.

By adding additional seasonings, it may not work as well to heal your pharyngitis. Instead of eating hard foods, drink the chicken broth at every meal along with a hot drink. Don’t drink or eat anything cold when you have pharyngitis. The throat area needs to be warm. The warmer the throat area is the more it will open. By following these tips your pharyngitis will heal in no time.

9. Green Tea

The inflammation associated with pharyngitis leads to a sore throat. So, limiting inflammatory particles circulating in the bloodstream helps to speed up your recovery. Drinking green tea is an excellent way to reduce inflammatory distress in the body associated with pharyngitis infection.

The epigallocatechin Gallate, (EGCG,) found in green tea is the catechin responsible for its potent anti-inflammatory properties.

Green tea is different from black tea in the sense that it does not undergo any toasting process, like black or oolong tea. Instead, the leaves are left to dry and then packed, without any additional processing of the leaves.

As a result, green tea still contains all the polyphenol antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties of the leaves. Steep some green tea leaves in hot water for 5 to 7-minutes for a potent brew. Add some raw honey, and drink it down as hot as you can. Repeat this treatment as often as you like throughout the day.

10. Licorice Root

We all know licorice from the black candy, with confectionary manufacturers use licorice root flavoring in their products. However, licorice root is not a candy; it’s a potent traditional remedy for a variety of ailments. Licorice is native to Asia and Europe, where traditional healers value the root for its medicinal properties.

Today, licorice root is available as a powder, a tea, and extract oil, suitable as a home remedy for treating many different types of diseases and disorders. The licorice root contains similar pain-relieving properties as Aspirin, without any of the adverse health benefits associated with Aspirin use in children.

Drinking licorice root tea may help soothe the symptoms of a sore throat, and it’s a popular ingredient in many throat lozenges as well. You can also try brewing a strong cup of tea and let the root soak for a few hours. Gargle with the tea, and spit it out – drinking too intense a concentration may result in some stomach discomfort.

""

11. Echinacea and Sage

The combination of echinacea and sage works to relieve the symptoms of pain and inflammation associated with pharyngitis infection. Echinacea is a South American plant that grows abundantly in the wild. Traditional Amazonian healers rely on echinacea to help boost the immune system and help patients recover from illness.

Drinking echinacea extract every day will give your immune system the boost it needs to prevent infection. Sage also has beneficial anti-inflammatory properties that complement the immune-boosting effect of echinacea. Combining the two ingredients into a throat spray may help to relieve symptoms of pain and inflammation while reducing the virus or bacteria’s ability to spread.

Add a teaspoon of sage powder and a teaspoon of echinacea powder to one cup of hot water and let it simmer over low heat on the stove for 45-minutes. Pack the liquid into a throat spray bottle and use it as necessary to relieve pain symptoms of a sore throat.

12. Cinnamon

This spice is a favorite in confectionaries and as a flavoring in many food products. The sweet and spicy taste of cinnamon comes from the presence of polyphenol antioxidants that have potent anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties.

In Chinese medicine, cinnamon is a traditional remedy for treating the symptoms of colds and flu, resolving congestion in the sinus and throat. The antioxidants and polyphenols found in cinnamon reduce the presence of inflammatory cytokines in the bloodstream, reducing swelling in the throat from bacterial or viral infection.

Patients suffering from the symptoms of pharyngitis infection can try adding cinnamon to green tea to improve the anti-inflammatory properties of the drink and help you recover faster from the symptoms of a scratchy and sore throat.

Cinnamon tea is available from your online health retailer in regular and herbal varieties – we recommend you give the herbal teas a shot to benefit from the additional antioxidants. However, you can also steep cinnamon sticks in hot water for a few minutes, and then add a teaspoon of raw honey for a traditional remedy.

13. Marshmallow Root

Marshmallows aren’t only for toasting around the fire. The marshmallow root contains a jelly-like substance known as, “mucilage,” which has potent anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving properties. Known as the “medieval aspirin,” marshmallow root is a favorite of traditional healers all around the world.

The mucilage found in marshmallow root lubricates the throat when swallowing, allowing the antibacterial nature of the remedy to prevent the bacteria from spreading to other areas, such as the tonsils.

Marshmallow root is another ingredient that’s a favorite in the ingredients list for throat lozenges. You can also drink marshmallow root tea to capture the anti-inflammatory and antibacterial benefits of the mucilage found in the root.

Take a tablespoon of marshmallow root powder and add it to a cup of steaming hot green tea. Let the powder dissolve its potent healing properties into the tea and then drink it down while it’s still warm. You should notice relief from your pain symptoms and a reduction in inflammation by the time you are done drinking your beverage.

""

14. Ginger Tea

This spice has antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties that help patients cope with the discomfort and pain symptoms associated with pharyngitis infection. Ginger has a rich history as a traditional remedy, with healers using it for the treatment of numerous adverse health disorders.

The root spice gets its healing powers from the presence of “gingerols.” These polyphenol antioxidant compounds have a potent anti-inflammatory effect on the body, reducing systemic inflammation in the throat associated with pharyngitis.

Patients can eat the dried, crushed root of the plant, or boil it into a cup of green tea before drinking. Drinking hot ginger with a teaspoon of raw honey mixed in helps to soothe the effects of a sore throat and relieve the “scratchy feeling.”

Gingerols are potent anti-inflammatory compounds that reduce the swelling in throat tissues. They also provide a hostile environment that prevents the spread of the bacteria or virus responsible for the infection.

Coconut oil gives its potent antibacterial properties from the presence of polyphenol antioxidants in the oil. Unrefined coconut oil undergoes no extraction or processing, and as a result, it retains all of its beneficial health properties.

Patients with pharyngitis infection can use coconut oil to reduce the inflammation and pain symptoms of the condition while eliminating the bacteria that cause the symptoms of sore throat. Add a spoonful of the oil to your cinnamon and green tea beverage.

The medium-chain triglycerides found in the coconut oil, line your throat, preventing it from drying out and turning scratchy. You can also dip your fingertip in the oil and rub it around the back of your throat as well.
