An ACL tear is an anterior cruciate ligament in the knee. It is an injury <\/a>that occurs in over 200,000 people in the United States. An ACL tear happens to most athletes who jump, land and change directions when playing sports. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

They have to make sudden movements, which causes them to have an ACL tear. Basketball, football, and soccer are three sports that have these types of movements. When people have an ACL tear, they will feel and hear a popping sound in their knee. It will be painful and cause instability and swelling. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

An ACL tear can be healed through rehabilitation, which involves strengthening the knee. It will allow the person to gain stability again. On the other hand, if rehabilitation alone doesn\u2019t work, surgery is another option to repair the ACL.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rehabilitation is given after surgery to help with stability and strength in the knee area. There are eight natural ways to heal an ACL tear.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1. Ice the area with an ice pack is a natural remedy for an ACL tear. <\/h3>\n\n\n\n

This will reduce swelling and pain to the knee. It can be applied to the knee for 15 minutes every two to three hours. If you don\u2019t want the ice pack directly to the knee, place the ice pack between a towel. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

When you ice the knee, elevate it. Place a few pillows under your knee with the ice pack and\/or towel for 15 minutes. Even after you finish icing the knee, keep your knee elevated. There is no need to get up because once you do, you\u2019ll be in pain. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Let the knee rest as much as possible. This is the best medicine for an ACL tear. The more you ice and let it rest, it will heal much quicker. You don\u2019t want to put any pressure <\/a>on the knee while it\u2019s injured.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

2. Epsom salt bath will heal an ACL tear. <\/h3>\n\n\n\n

In the tub, pour as much Epsom salt in the tub that you want. Sit in the tub for 20 to 30 minutes and let the Epsom salt do its job. Use warm water when you take a bath. You don\u2019t want it to be hot because there may be swelling and you want it to go down. If it\u2019s possible, use cool water. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This will help with swelling, pain, and inflammation<\/a>. Take an Epsom salt back at least twice a day. Since your knee will be in pain, someone will need to assist you in and out of the tub. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Make sure your knee is all the way submerged into the water, that way the Epsom salt can penetrate. Once you\u2019re ready to get out of the tub, take your time and try not to put too much pressure on the knee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

Move into the next position slowly. Leg strengthening exercises can be performed up to three times a day for up to four weeks. This should restore movement in the knee. Some exercises that will strengthen your quads and hamstrings include wall sits and straight leg lifts. Each stretch should be held for 20 to 30 seconds for two repetitions. Even without crutches and just wearing a knee brace you still won\u2019t be able to play any physical activities. If you try to play or practice on your brace, it will cause you pain. The ACL tear isn\u2019t healed and by walking on it will keep it from healing. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

When you wear the knee brace, elevate your leg. Even if you\u2019re at work at school, elevate your leg. The more you elevate it, the more it will be able to heal. Also, try to not bump into anything while wearing the brace because it will hurt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

6. Eating a healthy diet is a natural way to heal an ACL tear.<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Foods that you will want to eat are anti-inflammatory<\/a>. They will help to reduce having future injuries and maintain a healthy weight, so you don\u2019t put a strain on your bones. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Some foods that you should consume are foods rich in Vitamin C, antioxidants, and sulfur, including broccoli, cabbage, carrots, and garlic. Omega-3 fatty acids are good, such as salmon. Protein is good to consume, such as sardines, mackerel, eggs, and grass-fed meat. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Limit the amount of sugar and salt you consume. If it\u2019s possible, eliminate them completely. Some healthy fats to consume are olive and coconut oil. When you cook your food, you should boil or bake them. Drink plenty of water and eliminate alcohol and sodas. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
