3. Drug-induced cystitis
It may be surprising to hear, but cystitis can actually occur as a result of various medications. One such group of medicines is chemo drugs. These drugs are designed to kill the cancer cells within your body, but they can also have other adverse effects on your health. That’s why doctors are working so hard on finding another treatment option for cancer that doesn’t pose as many risks as chemotherapy.
Two drugs specifically known as ifosfamide and cyclophosphamide have been known to lead to the inflammation of the bladder. Doctors also state that various other chemo drugs can cause cystitis. After you ingest the drugs, they make their way out through your bladder and that’s when they cause the inflammation. If you’re currently undergoing chemotherapy then you may need to brace yourself for the possibility of cystitis developing.
