2. Nasal suctioning
Not nearly as science fiction as the name would have you believe, nasal suctioning is a process that medical professionals can provide. It is up there with one of the most disgusting procedures you’re ever likely to bear witness to, but nasal suctioning for children can really clear up their nasal congestion.
How does it work? Well, the clue is in the name and it doesn’t require much imagination to get a handle on this one. Essentially, a system of pipes and suction devices extract the green stuff from the far-reaching confines of a child’s nasal passages. You’ll be surprised at what comes out. A nickel, toy cars and a whole lot of snot.
Despite the gruesome process, the ends more than justify the means, as a whole bunch of adenovirus carrying snot is expelled into clinically secure containers and condemned to the incinerator. The less snot there is, the more oxygen can get in, and the sooner a person can be fighting fit again. Gross.
