5. Antibiotic Ointment
There are several over the counter antibiotic ointment treatments that you can use to help relieve the pain of a boil and make it disappear more quickly. Most of these ointments are fast acting and can be quite soothing. Neosporin is quite common for people to have in their medicine cabinets. This means that you may not have to go very far in order to find a soothing treatment for your boil.
The antibiotics that are in the ointment can also help to keep the infection that is causing the boil from spreading. To use the ointment, read the instructions on the package. In most cases you will simply apply the cream directly on the boil and the skin that surrounds it. You will want to add the over the counter antibiotic ointment to the infected area at least twice each day until the boil goes away.
