5. Depression
is a disease that affects millions of Americans and can be prevented by eating more fish. According to the Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health conducted a study with over 100,000 participants.
It was concluded that people who ate a lot of fish were 17% less likely to develop depression. Gender played a factor in the reduction, whereas the risk was 20% lower in men and 16% in women. Omega-3 is important for proper brain structure and the transmission of serotonin and dopamine.
Healthy serotonin and dopamine keep the brain healthy and prevents depression. It is recommended by the Washington State Department Health that a person eat two to three servings a week of omega-3, which includes canned mackerel, oysters, and herring. Consuming more fish will improve mood, which is linked to depression. A study was conducted that showed that people deficient in DHA and EPA had depression.
