Scabies is a skin disorder that is highly contagious. It is caused by Sarcoptes scabiei parasites mites that penetrate the skin and feed on it. The itching is not only caused by the presence of the mites but prominently by the mites eggs and waste excreted inside the skin. Studies show that 15-20 mites are enough to cause severe scabies infections. As they are reproducing, the number multiplies hence the intensity of the infection.

According to research, there are approximately 300 million scabies cases that take place around the world. In other countries other than the U.S., this condition can even cause serious illnesses. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) state that the most common symptoms of the ‘human itch mite’ show a crusty skin that has sores and is itchy.

1. Cayenne Pepper

This home remedy contains a chemical called capsaicin that is the best in alleviating skin pain sensations. Capsaicin also reduces the itchy feeling by soothing the skin neurons. Because of these properties found in cayenne pepper, it has been claimed to effectively get rid of scabies mites when applied to the skin. Even though there was no research conducted to support this claim, scabies patients confirm its abilities to treat the infection.

Cayenne can be applied topically to the skin or it can be put into bathing water. The water used should be hot in order for it to work effectively. About 30% of scabies patients attest that there is a burning sensation when applying cayenne to the skin. Therefore, it is important to be cautious when using it, do not let it come in contact with eyes. If you are applying topically, smear the paste into the skin cracks.
