5. Germ Causes
This is a potential cause of Behcet’s disease proposed by some researchers. It is possible that a virus or bacteria could bring out this disease in people who are predisposed to it.
In this case, the patient would have to already have the disease in their genetic makeup, but it isn’t activated or producing any symptoms yet. Without experiencing an infection, they may have lived the rest of their lives in a completely normal fashion without ever knowing they were carrying the genetic code for a rare disease.
If this theory is true, then an infection with a certain type of bacteria or virus could interact with the DNA and bring this disease to life. Even after the bacterial or viral infection is treated and cured, the disease will likely remain active since changes to the DNA and gene expression have already been made, and that stick around for life.
