4. Shin Pain
Osgood Schlatter disease may cause a person to experience pain located at the tibial tubercle. The tibial tubercle is the bony bump located where the patellar tendon is attached to the tibia. The tibia is also referred to as the shin bone.
There are times when a person may experience both shin and knee pain. It is easy to diagnose the shin pain as shin splints and treat it as such. However, Osgood Schlatter’s disease could be the underlying cause of the shin pain that a child is experiencing.
Typically this pain will only be in one shin and knee. However, there are some people who experience the pain in both of their knees and shins. The pain can become worse during certain movements. Resting is typically recommended as this allows the area time to heal. Ice may also help to reduce some of the swellings that occur from this disease.
