14 Things to Know About Ankle Ligaments

Search for Articles Here >>

Ankle ligaments are made up of soft tissue. There isn’t too much blood that flows to ligaments. When there is an injury to a ligament it takes a long time for it to heal. As with all ligaments, they are connected bone to bone.

There are things you need to know about ankle ligaments because if you ever injure your ankle, you’ll want to know what to do or what’s going on. Ankle injuries usually happen when doing physical activity. Once an injury occurs it is important to take steps to heal it.

Most ankle injuries can be treated at home, but in severe cases, they need to be seen by a doctor. Ankle sprains are caused by damage to the ligaments. Ice and rest are two main at-home treatments that are good for ankle sprains.

Here are eight things to know about ankle ligaments that you haven’t thought or heard of.

1. Younger men are more prone to have ankle injuries than older women.

Younger men between 15 and 24 have more ankle ligament issues than older women. Older women who are 30 and over have more issues than men their age. Younger men usually have more ankle issues because they are competitive and play a lot of sports. Older women usually get their ankle injuries from working in the yard.

There are many older women who are physically active. Older men tend to do more sitting than being physically active. The reason could be that when they were younger, they worked their bodies so hard that when they got older, they just couldn’t do it anymore.

That’s why it’s important to take care of your body when you’re younger because as you get older, you won’t be able to do some of those same activities. You’ll experience pain every time you try to do an activity.
