11. Dark-Colored Stool
People with Adenocarcinoma experience tumors growing in the intestines. These tumors may grow for years before they start to cause problems in the affected individual. The tumors are a problem, but the doctor can treat them. However, since they are part of the intestinal tract, they are constantly exposed to irritation from the digestion process.
As a result, the tumors may rupture and start to bleed. When this internal bleeding occurs, it taints the color of your stool to a dark black color. Patients may also notice that their stool looks and feels tarry. These tarry stools clearly indicate that the patient has somewhat severe internal bleeding caused by ruptured adenocarcinoma.
The doctor will arrange an orthoscopy of the intestinal tract to examine the extent of the problem. Typically, the patient will require surgery to remove the tumor and a section of the intestines. This procedure stops the bleeding, but it also limits the length of the intestinal tract. However, most patients won’t notice any ill effects from the procedure.
