10 Causes of a Patellar Tendon Tear

Search for Articles Here >>

Patellar tendon tear can happen to anyone who overuses their knees a lot for jumping and running, for instance. A person doesn’t have to be athletic in order to get this injury. In fact, anyone who puts a lot of stress on the knees constantly can get a patellar tendon tear.

The tendon tears when the person decides to keep putting stress on the knees. Inflammation of the tendon occurs as well as it becomes weaker. The repeated stress on the tendon causes tiny tears, which tries to repair itself, but as a result, it causes the tendon to get worse.

Some people with a patellar tendon tear may not pay attention to it, especially if the pain isn’t too bad. Most active people tend to ignore the pain and continue putting more stress on the tendon. There are eight causes of a patellar tendon tear to look out for.

1. High-intensity workouts

can cause a patellar tendon tear. High-intensity workouts consist of jumping, such as jumping jacks and running in place. A person is pushing themselves to the limit that over time, it could possibly cause a patellar tendon tear. If the person decides to keep working out at a high-intensity level, it will cause the tears in the tendons, which could cause the person to have a difficult time completing their workouts.

Even a simple low impact workout, such as walking could become difficult. The reason it’s become so difficult for the person to work out like he or she wants to is that the body is trying to repair itself, but it’s difficult because of the tears happening. Even if a person decides to not workout at a high-intensity for a while and just do low-impact workouts, it won’t do any good because the damage is done and any activity will cause pain.
