Varicocele is an enlargement of the veins in the scrotum. It is a condition that affects more than three million people in the United States each year. It is similar to varicose veins that are seen in the legs. The cause of varicocele is a low sperm count, which can cause infertility.
Varicocele doesn’t always affect sperm. Sometimes the testicles will shrink and not develop the way they are supposed to. When it comes to varicocele, they develop slowly. When a doctor diagnoses the condition, it doesn’t need to be treated. If the condition does need to be treated, surgery can be done. Varicocele has no symptoms, but when it does there are eight discomforting symptoms to look out for.
As soon as you develop symptoms it is important to visit your primary care physician, so he or she can diagnose it and tell you what you need to do to relieve yourself of the symptoms.
1. Sharp to dull discomfort pain is a symptom you will experience.
It may make you feel embarrassed because people around you will want to know what is wrong when you wince, especially if the pain is intense. When you go to the doctor, he or she may suggest for you take Tylenol for pain. If the pain is bothersome, the doctor will recommend repairing varicocele by having surgery.
On the other hand, if the pain is bearable, you may not even notice the pain. It will become second nature to you. As was stated before most people don’t have symptoms, so this only happens in rare cases. Even in rare cases, there are steps you can take to ease the pain.
Taking a hot bath or shower can ease the pain as well. The hot water will allow the muscles to relax, which will make the pain go away.
