14. Why and When You Need to Clean Your Ears
Under normal circumstances, ear wax acts as a protective agent for your ear canal. The wax traps dirt and dust, as well as bacteria, preventing them from accessing the deeper regions of the ear. In most people, this function rarely experiences any problems. However, those people who have excess wax production may be more predisposed to infection of the ear due to a blockage.
Most people will never need to clean their ears, but those individuals that produce more ear wax than average, require cleaning of their ear canals by a doctor if they experience a blockage or a severe reduction in their hearing capacity.
It’s always best to have a cleaning done in the months before a seasonal change. During this time, bacteria and viruses are active, and you are at risk of catching an ear infection if you have a cleaning during this time of the year.
