6. Liver Failure
The liver works much like the kidneys and helps remove toxins from the bloodstream by filtering things that move through the body. The liver is very sensitive, and it can easily become damaged or even infected. People who abuse drugs and alcohol are also likely to experience liver problems and even liver failure. When the liver stops working properly it can mean that the kidneys have to work twice as hard to filter toxins from the body. It also means the kidneys are likely to get more toxins to process.
These toxins can have an effect on the kidneys and even infect them. If the kidneys are overwhelmed by the toxins they could break down and become infected. If this goes on for too long a person may develop a kidney disease and require dialysis or long-term medical treatments. Patients who have liver failure are often monitored for kidney failure too.
