Calendula is an annual flower that is a type of Marigold. It blooms regularly throughout the growing season. Many think that calendula and Marigold the same plant, but the fact is that there are two types of Marigold: target and calendula, and when most people think of the Marigold they are thinking of the former. But there are some important things to know about this plant and the healing properties that it has that most people do not even think about.

There are several unique properties that make this one of the most versatile natural supplements out there and what is really unique about calendula is the fact that it is backed up by a number of scientific studies. Unlike most of the herbs and supplements out there, the evidence is not just anecdotal. Laboratory results have consistently shown the calendula has a significant impact on certain major illnesses including cancer.

1. As an Anti-Inflammatory

One of the major ways that this supplement can be used is as an anti-inflammatory. Because calendula contains flavonoids and linoleic acid, it is the perfect tool to fight inflammation. Inflammation is a major problem in the body. Inflammation causes all kinds of problems from headaches to arthritis when areas of the body get inflamed, it can cause swelling and this can inhibit the flow of oxygenated blood throughout the body to the organ systems that needed as well as cause various organ systems to stop functioning as efficiently.

If you have problems that are caused by inflammation, then it is a good idea to take an anti-inflammatory regularly. However, the benefit of calendula is that it is completely natural and completely harmless. If you make a tea out of it, then you can drink it daily to prevent inflammation and improve the health of your body.
