3. Stay Hydrated
Before you leave for the beach, make sure that you drink plenty of water, and remember to take a bottle with you. Dehydration is the leading cause of sunburn after exposure. The body is over 60-percent water, and losing vital fluids results in skin that burns faster while increasing free radical production in the epidermis.
Free radicals occur in the top layers of skin after overexposure to the sun’s harmful UV rays. If left untreated, the free radicals may cause oxidative stress on skin cells, causing them to die off. Damaged skin cells lead to the onset of premature aging, and the development of fine lines and wrinkles, especially in the face.
Ensuring that you drink at least 8-glasses of water throughout the day will maintain hydration levels and help your skin tan faster, with better resistance to harmful UVA rays. When we tan, we sweat – and the sweating releases vital minerals to the surface of the skin. Therefore, we recommend that you drink mineral water.
