4. Social Isolation
Another common symptom of fear of long words is social isolation. Those who are different — especially in school — could be mocked by their classmates as a result and become an outcast amongst peers. Many people with a fear of long words are labeled are weird by the people they meet and thus have few friends as a result if any.
It’s worth noting that there are some people with a fear of long words that still manage to have thriving social lives, but not all patients with the condition are so lucky. There are many patients who suffer from a fear of long words and don’t have friends as a result. If you notice that your child is struggling to read and doesn’t have many friends then this may be a symptom of fear of long words.
