One of the main purposes of wearing an ankle brace is to immobilize the ankle – that is, to keep it from moving too much. There are many reasons why you might want to do this and we’ve covered some of them in this article already – including in cases of chronic joint pain and posture issues – but there happen to be a lot more.
Keeping the ankle still is one of the first things a doctor (or paramedic) will recommend in the case of a serious knee injury or sprain, This is one of the things that a brace is best for. It’s also recommended if you’ve undergone recent surgery to the ankle – although \usually not too recent because swelling still needs to go down immediately after surgery.
