Animals and people lose dead skin cells throughout the day. They travel through the air and can be inhaled by people with allergies. Some people don’t have a reaction to animal dander and others have a severe reaction.
Pet allergies can trigger rhinitis. They can also be tricky. Some people are only allergic to certain types of pet dander, such as a cat or dog dander. Others are allergic to many different types. Once the cause of the allergy had been identified, the animal responsible for the reaction can be avoided. It can take a while to figure out which animals are the cause of the reaction and which ones aren’t.
Medications can help relieve the symptoms of an animal dander allergy and allergic rhinitis that is caused by them. Many people are able to have pets despite an allergy with the help of medications. Some people have such severe reactions that medication doesn’t even help.
