4. Puffy Swollen Eyes
The irritation symptoms associated with bulging eye symptoms may steadily worsen over time. The patient feels like they have sand or grit in their eyes that they can’t remove. Even when the patient rubs their eyes in an attempt to remove the grit, they are unable to get any relief or move the grit out of the eye.
This situation occurs due to the scarring on the inside of the eyelid caused by the condition. As a result, the patient’s eyelids and surrounding tissues may start to swell a give a puffy appearance. These symptoms of inflammation are challenging for the patient to deal with, and even the use of eye drops provides them with little, or at best, temporary relief from the irritation symptoms.
Patients may require the use of a cooling gel mask to bring down the swelling. In some cases of severe irritation, a doctor may prescribe anti-inflammatories or corticosteroids to help the patient manage the symptoms of swelling and irritation of the eyelids.
