3. Car Accidents
Motor vehicle accidents are the most frequent cause of broken toes and feet in most first world countries. Even with the development and use of seatbelts, car accidents continue to be the regular cause of trauma to the toes and feet. Usually, this type of trauma happens when the foot strikes a piece of the interior of the vehicle, such as the steering wheel, wheel well or dashboard.
Trauma to the toes and broken toes can also happen when an object inside the car becomes a flying projectile during the collision, striking passengers on their lower extremities. Car accidents that result in a rider being ejected from the car often result in broken legs and toes.
Side on and head-on accidents that affect the lower portion of the car or the doors can also crush the area where the feet are located, causing broken toes and feet. There is no way to anticipate a car accident, but safe driving is advised.
