12. Anemia
People with adenocarcinoma may experience internal bleeding from the tumors. This internal bleeding may cause a significant drop in red blood cell count. Red blood cells are responsible for carrying oxygen throughout the body, feeding the muscular system with what it needs for efficient function.
Without sufficient oxygen flowing through the blood, the affected individual starts to notice they feel tired all the time, even after a good night’s sleep. This fatigue won’t go away until the doctor treats the patient for anemia. This may involve surgery to stop internal bleeding from the tumors.
The affected individual also may notice that their lips start turning blue due to a lack of oxygenated blood. Anemia usually is easy for doctors to treat. Giving the patient iron supplements help to increase red blood cell production. However, people with adenocarcinoma may have to undergo surgery to stop the internal bleeding before the patient’s anemia symptoms subside.
