Trans fats have been proven to increase C-reactive protein levels, which causes inflammation. Additionally, trans fats can reduce HDL cholesterol, the cholesterol that’s good for you, and can damage the linings of the arteries, thereby increasing the risk of heart disease. Partially hydrogenated oils are another term for trans fat.
