5. Splinting and Taping at Home
Tibial plateau fractures can be painful for years and decades after the initial injury has happened, and they can require a lot of aftercare to avoid repeating the same injury or worsening the pain during a bout of inflammation. One of the first things that are recommended if you have injured the tibial plateau is to keep the injury as still as possible immediately after – and likely the same for several weeks afterward, as much as eight in the case of severe injuries.
Joint-strapping tape and bandages can go a long way towards helping to keep inflamed joints, previous injuries, and fractures in place, and reduce the pain – but this should always be done with the help of a medical professional in order to ensure that the injury is resting in the right place.
Before attempting to splint or bandage a fracture or injury, see your doctor for x-rays and treatment recommendations first.
