20 Simple Home Remedies for Stomach Pain

We have all had a case of the upset tummy, as it is a common condition.  So, since it is likely to happen again, let us review some low cost, relatively easy home remedies for such occasion. 

These remedies are homeopathic in nature – meaning that they take a holistic approach (i.e. broad perspective, taking into account all parts as they relate to the whole, in this case – a person, including all biopsychosocial parts) and they come with natural treatment (such as harnessing the strengths and healing elements of plants, temperature, meditation, and other non-chemical or man-made based solutions). 

This is also often called alternative medicine and is often representative of many medicinal approaches of the past, especially Native American, Asian, and Indian in origin. 

For non-lethal situations, a homeopathic approach is often ideal, as your body will not become resistant to antibiotics and such, and there tend to be far fewer side effects.

1. Avoid Difficult to Digest Foods

Fatty, fried… rich, creamy… heavily preserved, and salty… These are all foods that upset the stomach.  They are difficult to digest and put extra wear and energy expenditure there. 

Instead of ordering the Double Smoked Bacon with Cheese breakfast sandwich… try going for the oatmeal with fruit.  A BRAT diet is recommended in lieu of a common American diet of grease, fat, and over-saltiness…

This constitutes B- bananas, R- rice, A- applesauce, and T- toast.  These foods are gentle on the stomach, thereby reducing pain (depending on the source), and are starchy, so they make for firmer stool (bowel movements, doo-doo), which is helpful in cases of diarrhea. 

Your pallet (taste buds) will adjust to this more mild-flavored diet and you will begin to enjoy it.  Of course, you will likely enjoy the benefits of a settled, calm, and content tummy even more.
