9 Frustrating Causes of Hives

Search for Articles Here >>

Urticaria is the medical term for a dermatological condition, which is most commonly referred to as hives. Approximately 20 percent of people are affected by hives at some point in their lives. There are a number of situations and substances that may trigger hives. One of the first signs of hives is typically itchiness. Not long after, red welts will start to appear on the skin. These welts will be various sizes and can appear anywhere on the body.

Hives are caused by the release of histamine within the body. There are two categories of hives, acute and chronic. Acute hives will typically have a short life, lasting from just a few hours or a few days. When hives occur regularly and last for more than six weeks it is considered to be chronic. When a person suffers from chronic hives it can be quite frustrating as determining the underlying cause can be difficult. Here are 9 frustrating causes of hives.

1. Temperature Changes

When it comes to sensitivity, there are simply some people who are more sensitive to things than others. One of the frustrating things about hives for some people is that they simply may develop hives because of a change in temperature. This means that if their body becomes too hot or too cold, hives may appear. This can be very frustrating as it can be difficult to maintain the same temperature at all times.

In addition, it is impossible to control the weather. For someone that has issues with temperature causing their hives, taking a shower, sweating, or being out in the extreme heat or cold may cause hives to develop. While hives are typically harmless, it can be extremely annoying to deal with them every time you move from outside to inside or vice versa. Trying to maintain an even temperature as much as possible is the best way to deal with these types of hives.
