5. Pregnancy
Women who are pregnant may notice that they have some of the symptoms of restless leg syndrome. Anywhere from 10 to 34% of pregnant women will have these symptoms at some point during their pregnancy. Restless legs will typically take place during the third trimester but may occur at any time during the pregnancy. One of the main reasons that women experience this during the last trimester is because of a lack of folic acid and iron.
These nutrients are important during pregnancy. High levels of estrogen and changes in the metabolism of calcium and vitamin D might also contribute to restless legs. Restless leg syndrome during pregnancy is not a big concern, and there is not any treatment necessary. Your doctor might prescribe supplements to improve iron and folic acid levels. Typically, a restless leg will go away about a month after delivering your baby.
