4. Spondylolisthesis
Spondylolisthesis occurs when a bone in the spine slips forward and out of place. This usually occurs in the lower back and can cause pain on either side or in the middle. There is also a degenerative form of spondylolisthesis that is caused by arthritis.
Arthritis weakens the joints and ligaments that keep the spine aligned, and it can slip out of place more easily. It can also cause a disc to slip out of place. Family history can put a person at at-risk, and some people are also born with a congenital disability that causes the condition.
Physical activity and certain jobs can also increase the risk of the condition. It can affect people of all ages, but men are more prone to it than women. People who play sports are more susceptible as are the elderly. The condition is treated with anti-inflammatory medications and steroid injections.
